One of my favorite genres of show recently has been rom-coms. I don’t recall how My Sempai is Annoying landed on my radar a few years ago, but the BluRay happened to be on discount, so I grabbed it. I didn’t get around to watching it until a few months before making this video, but laughed heartily throughout. I also noticed that very few AMVs had been made using it, so I wanted to give it a bit of attention when RICE 2026 rolled around.
Finding a song that fit the characters and energy was harder than I expected, but various searches for “workplace romance songs” eventually popped up a recommendation for Taylor Acorn’s “I Think I’m In Love,” which I immediately felt was workable (and also gave me several other songs of hers that may also become videos someday). There’s no radio edit of any of her songs, so I had to do the censoring for convention entries myself, which I think I somewhat succeeded at, but I know my audio editing skills aren’t very good, so the judges’ opinions might have differed.
Editing-wise, this ended up getting cut at a much faster pacing than I usually work with, but the speed of the song dictated a lot of that. Feedback from the other RICE entrants was that the original version was actually a bit too quick in some places, so I scaled those back in the post-RICE revised version.
Overall, this was a fun one to make. I may have to come back to this style of video more in the future.
